Church School Ministry

Objectives of the Church School Ministry

According to the Gospel of St. Luke, Jesus appeared in the temple at twelve years old and astonished the teachers of the day with His insight and knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. Guided by the Holy Spirit, He went forth from there and “increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God” (Luke 2.52).

It is that same Holy Spirit we call upon to guide and inspire the children of the Lord and our teachers today as they participate in the Church School ministry at Holy Trinity, that they may also “increase in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God.”

Based on that desire, the objectives of our Church School program are therefore as follows:

  • To educate the Lord’s children in the teachings, Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition of the Greek Orthodox Church.
  • To develop and inspire in them the practices of:
    a) regular attendance at the divine services and a regular practice of personal prayer.
    b) preparation for and participation in the sacramental life of our Church
    c) regular reading of the Holy Scriptures and writings of the Church.
  • To cultivate in them an Orthodox conscience and devotion to Christian ideals and to prepare them so that they become faithful, pious, and active members of our Church.
  • To guide them in seeking salvation in God and eternal life through the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
